How to contact a coven or group

In this day and age where the art of letter writing sadly appears to be disappearing, when it comes to contacting a coven, magical group or the like, there is still an expectation for the seeker to write at least an email when wishing to make contact.  However, many coven or group leaders are busy people, a single sentence demand (i.e. “tell me about your coven”) will more than likely be deleted.

If you wish to ensure your email will not only be read but responded to, then here are some pointers that may be worth considering:

  • Introduce yourself, including a brief background as to who you are and details of your magical or spiritual background or interest (depending on what you are seeking).

  • Clearly ensure you indicate what you are asking of the group leader and why.  If you are looking to join a coven or group, what is the reason for contacting this particular group.  If you are seeking general information, then be clear as to what information, its purpose and its use.

  • How did you come across this particular coven or group? Was it a general internet search? Did someone recommend you contact the group?

  • If you have specific questions (i.e. for a school project), you can include these at this stage, however it may be beneficial to include details as to what is the purpose for these questions.

  • Include your name and contact phone number.

Check that your initial contact is formal (you do not know the person), your request is concise and to the point (long winded emails may be deleted), and reframe from using jargon or slang (as these may result in mix measuring).

Some groups may respond with a questionnaire for the seeker to complete. Others may suggest a physical meeting (i.e. a local coffee meeting, etc).

Please keep in mind that many coven or group leaders are busy people who often have other commitments.  As such it may take up to two or three weeks to respond to email enquiries.  If you have  not received a response after this time, then reach out again - your initial email may not have been received or overlooked.
